A variety of additional services, including stop time measurements, safe distance calculations, safety training, and consultations.
Stop Time Measurement and Safe Distance Calculation
What do non-locking interlocks, light curtains, laser scanners, safety mats, RF devices and single/two-hand control devices have in common? They are all safety input devices, which upon interruption or activation initiate a stop command of the potentially hazardous energy sources. But do they ensure the hazard is stopped before the operator reaches it?
This is where the stop time measurement and safe distance calculation is necessary to ensure that each of these devices is installed far enough away from the hazard such that the operator can’t reach the hazard before it safely stops.
Stop time measurements should be performed periodically.
Machine Safety Training
Our functional safety team’s knowledge of machine safety standards can be available to your team with our safety training program. Safety training classes include:
- Machine Risk Assessment, learn the principles behind the standard and the hands-on aspect of completing one with our team.
- Risk Reduction Measures, training on the various risk reduction measures from the design out measures, engineering controls, to administrative measures. How can they be implemented compliantly to perform the intended risk reduction measure?
- Safety Controls behind engineering controls, training on how to associate the level of risk for some of your hazards with a level of reliability of your safety control circuit. Learn the various levels of reliability circuits that meet ISO 13849 and ANSI B11.26 and how to design them compliantly.
- Lockout Tagout and Alternative Control Measures, training on the various requirements for each for proper compliance.
- Machine Specific Standards, many automated machines have their own set of specific safety standards (e.g., milling machines, presses, robots, palletizers and de-palletizers, fillers, mixers, ASRS, etc.) Training in machine-specific standards provides you with more direct knowledge of the specific safeguarding requirements for your machine.
Machine Safety Specification
Safe-T-Sense has worked with a variety of companies to assist them in developing and documenting their machine safety specification. This document is provided to OEMs or upon any major machine integration to ensure consistent machine safety. Included within are:
- The requirements for a documented risk assessment and its template,
- Risk reduction measures and their compliance requirements,
- Required machine-specific risk reduction measures,
- Documented safety circuits to ensure consistent Category or PL or SIL safety functions being designed
